Your friends and family will love and treasure your personalized art cards. I will show students how to use their own watercolors to create cards for any season or reason. A material list is available upon request

‘Let’s Paint’ – with an emphasis on composition.

Watercolor class by Beverly Mangum

Location: Roland Lee Studio at 165 North 100 East, Room Number 6

Semi -Private with only 4 students per class.

Students should have a basic knowledge of watercolor techniques.

‘Let’s paint’ what you love!  Each student will create their own individual paintings. You should come to class with reference photos of your favorite subjects along with duplicate reference photos in black and white. Composition will be simplified by use of a composition checklist.  This checklist will give students the tools to start and complete their paintings with confidence. A little planning in advance will help each artist ENJOY the journey as they paint.  Each class will begin with instruction and demo on composition. The remainder of the class will be for students to paint and for individual instruction. This three week session should be adequate for most students to complete an 11 X 14 or 8 X 10 painting; or possibly several miniatures (depending on the complexity of your subject). If you have questions, you can reach me at 801-721-0196. A material list is available upon request.

Watercolor Class by Sean Rowley

Location: Roland Lee Studio at 165 North 100 East, Room Number 6

Semi-Private with only 4 students per class.

Students should have a basic knowledge of watercolor techniques.

Intermediate to Advanced Watercolor I

Working on the fundamentals. We will begin with a very short slide show. There will be a short lesson on composition with an emphasis on balance. We will learn color. How to get the exact color you want. How to avoid muddy colors, and how to mix mud when you need it. There will be an emphasis on simple subject matter. How to select the best reference material for a watercolor painting. The students will be provided a simple reference image by the teacher in advance of the class. Be prepared with the teacher provided reference image drawn on the paper before class starts so we can dive right in and get painting. All questions are encouraged and will be answered.

Intermediate to Advanced Watercolor II

Glazing or layering. We will begin with a short slide show on glazing. Bring your own reference material. Each student will work on completing a painting from their own reference material. We will continue the painting as need in the next class. Each student will receive individual help and instruction as needed. All questions are encouraged and will be answered.

Intermediate to Advanced Watercolor III

Shadows. A short demo will be given on a wet in wet technique I like to call charging in. I'll show you how to make realistic vegetation with this demo. Learn how to paint realistic shadows: Form shadows, cast shadows. Make your paintings come alive with proper application of shadows to show form. Bring your own reference material and painting from the prior class, Intermediate to Advanced II. We will use this time to finish the painting we started. We will apply finishing details and cast shadows. All questions are encouraged and will be answered.
